FRANCE: Culture Trophies: a challenge to innovation and culture
Updated: May 3, 2022
Each year, teams of apprentices from Compagnons compete in the "Culture Trophy", the aim of which is to get them to work in teams in a project in which they respond to a predefined topic. For example: "How do culture and travel contribute to freedom? ".
The challenge given to the learners is also the need to innovate and differentiate themselves through an original production, which has to take into account environmental, digital, health and ergonomics aspects.

Responsible organisation :

What problem or issue has the innovative practice aimed to tackle?
Since 2005, the Compagnons du Devoir, in partnership with Legrand company, have been organising the annual "Trophées de la culture" (Culture Trophies) for young people in training within the Compagnons du Devoir and the Tour de France.
The aim of these trophies is to innovate and differentiate themselves through an original production (video, models, photo exhibition, etc.), by making a break from school-type teaching methods.
Grouped in regional teams, they are supervised by a trainer and have about thirty hours in the evening to produce their work as a project. The form remains free to ensure creativity, originality and persuasiveness. Each team is simply asked to work on their production while emphasising :
The environmental aspect (energy efficiency), for example, through an eco-designed project linked to the problems of sustainable development or an object or concept that simply promotes an ecological approach to living together.
The digital transition to understanding the potential of digital technology in manufacturing, programming or collaboration.
Safety, health and ergonomics (well-being at work), which must be taken into account during the development of the work and developed in a structured manner in the Word file.
The topics differ each year:
2021: "How do culture and travel contribute to freedom?"
2020: "Showing the importance of the symbiosis between body and mind"
2019: "Showing that the world is becoming resilient and better despite everything".
This production, accompanied by a written digital support (presentation, context, approach, research, photos) is presented in front of a jury that evaluates both the content and the form.
Culture trophies 2020: Showing the importance of the symbiosis between body and mind
What have been the achievements?
Beyond the skills to be developed and acquired, the Culture Trophy is an intense human adventure for young people.
Students are free to choose the format of their production. It can take the form of a video, models, photo exhibition, etc. but it is always accompanied by a written, often digital, document.
Example of a realisation (2018) :
Who was involved and how?
